Denholme Local History Group

history group

Denholme History Group has been in existence since February 2011. Our activities have been two-fold.

Firstly, we hold four meetings each year in the Mechanics Institute. These take place at 7.30pm – 9.00pm on the second Wednesday of March, May, September and November. At each meeting we have a speaker to talk about different aspects of the history of Denholme or the surrounding area. In July we arrange a visit to a local historical venue, such as Shibden Hall. The meetings and visits are open to all and are advertised in the Denholme Newsletter and via posters in the Mechanics Institute and all shops in Denholme and local newspapers. There is a small fee of £2.00 at each meeting to cover refreshments and speakers expenses.

Secondly, we are developing an Archive of items relating to Denholme. This consists of a collection of documents and photos and will be held in the Mechanics Institute and can be viewed by contacting any of the people detailed below. Articles in the Archive are for reference only, although photocopies can be arranged via the Library staff at 15p per sheet. There will also be a digital version of the Archive which will contain scanned copies of most of the Archive items available via the Town Council website.

Anyone who would like to contribute items to the Archive or wants more information regarding History Group activities can contact the following people:
